Undergraduate Program for Automation Major

I.General Description

The specialty of Automation is a sub-discipline of automation-clustering major. This major is the one of the national characteristic specialized construction majors and the national comprehensive reform pilot specialty. This major is characterized by the combination of systematic theory and broad engineering applications, and it fuses many disciplinary and interdisciplinary. This major cultivates students on mastering fundamental theory of control science and engineering, specialized knowledge and basic technology. Mastering traffic management and control, industrial automation, trail traffic signal and control, intelligent instrument and so on theories and methods are also essential for this major. The students will be trained focusing on the acquiring, processing, using and controlling of the information, prolonged foreign language study, computer application, enhance the engineering awareness. All the students will be encouraged to get their diversified and personalized development to improve their adaptability to be high-level, innovative, comprehensive talented persons.

II.Objectives

The program nurtures composite talents with all-round development of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and labor, and a harmonious unity of knowledge,cultivate senior-versatile engineer and technical talents. Students need to master the solid foundation ofmathematics, physics, computer science, foreign language, humanity, economy management, and related basic knowledge etc. Students need to master electric circuit, automatic control, electromechanical engineering, traffic management and control etc. with related basic theory, specialized knowledge and technology, owninga good spirit of innovation, professionalism, engineering, humanities and international perspective. They are able to work in the fields of traffic control, industrial automation, and engaged in various related fields work. The training of students could work on scientific research, systematic design, product development, management and operation. Students have the comprehensive ability to use knowledge in wide area to solve complex engineering problem to be a scientific research talents.

III. Basic Requirements

With the requirement of the economic development, this major produces well-trained graduates. They are ready to take on the challenges of the workplace with solid basic knowledge, widely-informed and practice-oriented training program.After the curriculum study, experimental and engineering training for four years, students in this specialty should acquire the knowledge, abilities and qualities as follows:

1.Basic knowledge:Master the related mathematics, natural science and otherengineering knowledge to solve complex automation problems.

2.Problem analysis: Acquiring the integrated ability tousethe basic principles ofrelated mathematics, natural science and automation science with literature studytoidentify, analyze and conclude the technical problems in automation engineeringby the comprehensive application of their learned scientific theoretical methods and technical means.

3.Technical solutions:Holding the basic ability of system design, operation and maintenance to solve complexautomation engineering problemswith innovative consciousness and innovative abilities, and also take think of thesocial issuessuch as healthcare, safety, legal, culture and environment factors to participate in the design and production system.

4.Research:With the ability to analyze and solve the practical problems in automation engineering experiments, data processing, and synthesis to give a conclusion by the comprehensive application of their learned scientific theoretical methods and technical means;

5.New technology: Training professional automation engineers who familiars with the frontier to meet the demand for developing automation technology; having ability to develop, select, and combine the proper resources, modern tools and so on to solve complex automation engineering problems with ability of analysis, modeling, simulation and applications.

6.Engineering and society: Having good humanities attainment, strong social responsibility and good engineering professional ethics; Having good sense on quality, environment, safety and service;

7.Environmental and social sustainability: With the ability to analyze and evaluate the practical problems with consideration of the environmental and social sustainability.

8.Technical terms: Understanding of the professional field of technical standards, relevant industry policies, laws and regulations; having good sense on the engineering ethics, safety, and acquiring the integrated ability to use scientific methods and theories learned techniques to analyze and solve practical engineering problems.

9.Teamwork: With good capability of cooperation in team-work.

10.Communication: Having communication skills in writing or oral with co-workers and other people on the professional issues in the area of automation; having the ability to communicate with a certain preliminary competition and cooperation in international perspective and cross-cultural environment.

11.Project management: Having good organization and management skills to deal with changeable and complicated engineering problems.

12.Life-long learning: Being ability to acquire information and keep study for the whole life.

IV. Length of Schooling and Conferred Degree

Four years, Bachelor of Engineering

V. Core Disciplines and Special Courses

Core Disciplines: Control Science and Engineering (first level discipline), Transportation Information Engineering and Control (second level discipline),

Core Courses: Electronic Circuit, Automatic Control Principle, Modern Control Theory, System of Microcomputer and Single Chip Computer, Foundation to Electric Machines and Motor Drive, Sensor and Detection Technology, Computer Control Technology, Computer Network and Communication, Motion Control System, Highway Electromechanical System, Rail Transit System, Intelligence Instrument Design.

Specialize Courses:Networked Control Technology, Robotics Technology, Transportation Flow Theory, Transportation Management and Control, Signal and Communication of Rail Transit, Rail Transit Train Operation Control, Instrument Bus and Virtual Instruments, Modern Traffic Information Detection Technology etc.

VI.Graduation Requirements

After completing the learning of every link in teaching program according to this cultivation program, obtaining at least 175 scores, and passing through the graduation thesis or design, students can graduate and get their Bachelor's Degree.
